 | I am seeking your advice regarding the intake of Vitamins. My 77 year old father has been diagnosed with macular degeneration of his eyes two years ago. He is currently on medication for high blood pressure. He also has regular medical check ups. He also takes some alternative medicine, 2 tablets of thomson's Livirin (for liver) each day as well as 2 tabs of Thomson's Gingko Biloba daily. Recently, I read about Bilberry Extract from Solaray which is a natural supplement for the eyes. Would it |

| You have to be very careful when taking all sorts of supplements as in most of the supplements there is no real scientific evidence to show that they are medically helpful or effective in relieving some diseases.
I do not know what Matberry and Bilberry extracts contain and therfore, am not able to advise you on how much vitamins to take. It is good to have some vitamin supplements but to be taken in moderate amounts.

 | Is there any medical treatment for those who are diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease? |
 |
| To date, there is no known cure for Alzheimer's disease but some medication can be administered to help with the symptoms. You should also read the articles at Prohighway Healthcare on Alzheimer's disease. Simply key in Alzheimer's into the search at the top left of the site and all articles containing the word Alzheimer's will come out.

 | My Mom had a stroke six months ago and she is getting better with time.
One thing I would like to ask is why does she still have pain in her right hand and legs just like cramp? Please advise how I can help my mother.
|
 |
| The pains that your mother is experiencing is probably due to stiffness of the muscles and joints.
You should try to encourage her to move her arms and legs regularly as well as to give some massage to the muscles.

 | I want to ask you about my grandmother who is 82 years old. She often complains that her legs, especially the lower part feels very painful when the weather is cool. What do you think the problem could be and how to prevent it happening again? Should she take medicine? |
 |
| Taking into regard your grandmother's age she could have arthritis which is common in old age. You chould take her to see a rheumatologist. Taking some medicine such as non-steriod anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) may relieve her symptoms.
